With work being somewhat mental, and the weather being what it is, I have not been able to get my tree lillies planted (nor have I done my snowdrops or daffodils) - will I be OK to get them planted in the next day or so?

    I'd say yes.
But then I've never grown them.:)

    Thanks :)

I'll bury them a wee bit deeper to protect them from any frost we might get

    So would I.
But then all the ones I planted last spring never came up.

As long as they're not sprouting I'd say they'll be fine. I have some that I planted around four years ago. From memory, I planted them around 6" deep.

They are sprouting, although they were when T&M sent them. Would I be better potting them up and bringing them on indoors and then plant out around March?

As I was seriously diappointed by the liles I ordered last Spring I thought I'd flag up that they were from J Parker. They were heavily discounted but an absolute washout- most never even appeared above soil, let alone flowered.

If I was sent sprouting bulbs, I wouldn't be very happy. Could you send them back and get a refund? As to what to do with them (assuming you want to keep them) I can only hazard a guess. Maybe put them in a large(ish) pot and keep them outside, bringing in at night when severe weather is forecast. Probably look to plant out mid-April?

In fairness, I have had them a good few weeks so it would be one hell of a cheek to return them. I'll try and get a photo of them in the next day or so to see what you all think (I'm at work at the moment).

I've got space in the porch to bring them on in a cool place if that would suit them

Let me say that I have no real experience of this situation. My 'gut' feel is that you need to keep them in growth (which they now are) whilst at the same time keeping them in check. So, I think the best bet is to keep them fairly cool.

Just to add, don't try to put more than one in a good sized pot, as they do 'go' a bit:)

Thanks Freddy, that was sort of my thinking - I just wasn't sure if planting them out would stall them enough, or be too much and kill them - porch pots it is I think

Maybe the porch would be too warm during the day? If it were me, I'd probably leave them outside, unless it was quite cold.:dunno:

I've grown other lillies, and most that you buy here are totally hardy.

I'd just plant them out, making sure the shoots are below the surface.
Things are quite mild just now, so whos to say that any that have been planted earlier would not now have lots of roots and a shoot.

My experience of crown imperials, (lilly family similar looking bulbs), is that slugs eat them under ground, so can be disappointing for that reason.
