TRELLIS advice

    Hi just moved to new house.Wont to cover fence with climbers.Looking for advice and tips.

    There are loads of climbers you can buy but it all depends on what you want i.e. flowering or non flowering, evergreen or deciduous, quick growing etc etc. Also the aspect of the fence comes into play, does it face North, South? A good tip, if you see one growing locally that you like in a similar position ask what it is and buy the same. Honeysuckle mixed with a suitable clematis worked well for me a few years ago.

    Moved to a new house over looked on all sides with a very tiny back garden,I ;) made a trip to the local library came back with a lot of books.. if you cant go out go up...was the message so I made loads of trellis and purchased seven assorted Honey suckles and the same amount of Clematis Plus three David Austins climbing Roses.. if it is a success I will send pictures!

    Some favorites: climbing roses, clematis viticella, climbing hydrangea, ormamental vine. "The tree and shrub expert" by DG Hessayon has a good list of climbers and advice on pruning.
