My oldest son (nearly 5, jeez how time flies) went out doing trick or treat for the first time this evening, with his mam and their friends. Some people say its begging, and some say its annoying an intimidating, but I see the kids' faces and they're having fun. People round here generally seem to get into the spirit, most don't see it as ghoulish... sorry can't think of any more halloween related words to squeeze in:)

I don't think its the same as it used to be - its become overly Americanised, and retail driven.

The other thing that I don't understand, is some of the outfits that kids are being allowed out in nowadays - two different groups of kids, all girls, on the way home tonight were dressed as tarts (and I don't use the term lightly); one group looked like they were maybe St Trinians themed (pigtails, hats, blouses and [very] short skirts); the other group, well I have no idea what they were supposed to be, as they were simply wearing little, tight, short, black dresses. They can't have been more than 12 or 13! What the hell is that all about?

I think we might be getting old FC. I find myself increasingly often shocked at what people where in public these days, and this coming from someone who grew up on the infamous north east coast where young ladies would go out clubbing in what I can only describe as nighties, regardless of the fact that it could be hailstoning, blowing a gale, and sea fret spewing all over the sea front.

Nowadays people seem to walk about in pyjamas in the middle of the day, in public. Or, as you say, nothing much at all sometimes.

I said exactly the same thing to Mrs C at the time we saw them - I must be showing my age. Don't get me wrong, stick 10 years onto them, and I wouldn't complain about them wearing short/tight stuff, but at such a young age it just isn't right.

To be fair @fat controller 12 or 13 is too old anyway. My son is 5 on Monday and it's just a bit of fun, yes it has become Americanized but what hasn't? We went around the local estate and only went to houses that had the Halloween theme (i.e. pumpkins, decorations).
He had a smile on his face all night and too me that's all that mattered.

Aye, its great to see the wee ones out in their witches or ghost costumes, and I wouldn't want to see their fun spoiled in any way. It just saddens me that things that were fun when we were kids seem to be purely driven by profit and greed; apples swinging on strings or dunking for apples in baths is more like where it should be at.

We put a pumpkin outside and only had about 4 groups of children call (with their parents across the road) all of whom were having a great time and probably taking time off from the several lockal kids Halloween parties (like what we did when our daughter was young).

As I drove home this afternoon a large illuminated mobile traffic sign had been erected by the roadside: " be polite this Halloween nite".
What the hell was THAT all about???

They must have seen the eejits on the roads around my way - this past couple of days I have seen more downright arrogant and dangerous behaviour than I care to recall.
