Having a drink with my old mate tonight. After solving the Brexit , Syria and Trump problems over the first pint , we discussed the UK pop star rich list. We got Macca at No 1 . Number 2 amazed me , as did some others . Sadly I think , I am a little to old to be a rock n roll star/ sex symbol
Adele? Sir Mick? U2? Who tops musician rich list?

That is such a badly written and laid out article - so hard to read. Whatever happened to articles that you could read through and actually get some information from? :old:

Thing I notice is there is an awful lot of oldies there, some newer ones, but I just wonder how many of those newer ones will still be there, in the list, in 30 yrs time.
Obviously the oldies will be gone then, but I dont see many with staying power these days.

True , I think the days of everlasting pop stars , as Elton John , Jagger , Rod Stewart are gone. Hopefully Adele will stop whining on about her lost love before I go belly up :snorky:

I was surprised that Adelle and Calvin Harris were 'worth' so much.

                    No chance...................

I don't but they just don't get the headlines/money that they deserve. It's the manufactured acts that make the 'news' and get the moolah.

You may not like them, not everybody does, but there’s no denying the huge impact they had at the time, and still get regularly played on the radio.

I am old enough to remember the Beatles performance of Love Love me Do , on Granada Reports in 1962. All the North West were talking about them, they were different and special . In a few months it was Beatle mania . An incredible group who changed the course of pop music, virtually overnight :blue thumb:

I couldn't argue with that but from that era I'd much, much rather be listening to The Who or Roy Orbison. The following is from The Big O's Wikipedia page................

"As "In Dreams" was released in April 1963, Orbison was asked to replace the guitarist Duane Eddy on a tour of the UK in top billing with the Beatles, whose popularity was on the rise. When he arrived in Britain, however, he saw the amount of advertising devoted to the quartet and realized he was no longer the main draw. He had never heard of them, and annoyed, asked rhetorically, "What's a Beatle, anyway?" to which John Lennon replied, after tapping his shoulder, "I am".[53] On the opening night, Orbison opted to go onstage first, although he was the more established act. Known for having raucous shows expressing an extraordinary amount of energy, Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr stood dumbfounded backstage as Orbison performed completely still and simply sang through 14 encores.[54] Finally, when the audience began chanting "We want Roy!" again, Lennon and McCartney prevented Orbison from going on again by physically holding him back."

Music is very much a personal thing though. I'm currently listening to lots of New Order, Sonic Youth and Radiohead. I have tickets to see Underworld in a couple of weeks. But the Beatles - just never really got it :dunno: Sorry.

I see U2 on the list but in my opinion (of their contemporaries) Echo And The Bunnymen, The Jesus And Mary Chain, The Cocteau Twins and Pete Wylie are all equally deserving. Weird thing personal taste!
