I had a bit of a eureka moment today and want to do something unusual : roses underplanted with wildflowers/ plants. I dont know if it will work yet but we will see.
I want to do this to teach my daughter about nature and help the bees as I have only seen four this year :(
I would love to hear your suggestions I have aqualegia ferns bluebells forget me nots which I let run rampant.
My garden border is long and seperated into rose colour sections by clipped box hedge bit suprisingly the wild plamts that have moved in look stunning.
If u know a plant is toxic can u let me know as I have a three yr old

There's quite a few websites that specialise in wildflowers. Categorized into tall, small, shady, full sun etc. And they sell by grams/m2.

I picked up a load of packets of wildflowers on the weekend at a poundshop/cheapo shop. I think it was The Range or b&m. 50p a packet, so I got six!

I think if you can get any wildflowers in anywhere it's a bonus, especially with the way pollinators are declining. I have lost my wildflower patch at the moment, but have a couple of ideas where it can go to. I want to dig a border next to the new path past the veg beds about 18 inches wide by 6 foot and also want to leave part of the bottom lawn and grow perennials in plugs to plant next year. I have never seen roses under planted with wild flowers so would be interested to see how it goes.

I'm always surprised how cheap wildflower seed is.

it does take a while to be honest. I find it hard to distinguish if they are weed seedlings or not as well. Just keep em watered and they should come through.

I sowed some wild flower seeds in a new raised bed I created at the beginning of June; later than the 1st of the month though. They are all growing nicely and some are just about to flower.

I think (and I do hope I'm wrong) if you can't see any signs of growth by now, you probably won't. :frown:
