    Hi guys,

I have scoured the web to no avail, other than leading me to believe that they are caused by mites bites :loll:.

When I bought my chocolate mint plant from the garden centre I noticed these spots all over the plants but wasn't too concerned. However they seem to be becoming more prolific!

Any ideas on how to treat/what they are?

Hello @AOG my friend no worries that's what the Admin team are here for,I'm no expert but it could be mint rust that has small orange brown pustules on the leaves, but best wait until one of our more knowledgeable friends come along:smile:

First thought is that it is rust AOG.
You can chop it back and spray with a fungicide and try to clean it up but, as it is an edible plant, I would take it back to the garden centre. You should get your money back :)

Yes defo looks like mint rust to me.. You could take it back if only just bought but chances are the others will have it too.. There are a few ways to control mint rust, depending on your preferred method of control.. I try to garden organically so try to keep good insects around the garden.. I would remove any infected leaves as Verdun has said if the disease is mild and burn them..Thinning, if your clump is big and tight and will allow better air circulation that can dry out rust fungus.. Changing the way you water will slow or even stop rust fungus; always water mint at the base, never on the leaves, and do it early in the day so water will evaporate quickly. Potted mints shoved into corners should be brought away from walls and fences.

I love the chocolate mint it is like After 8s  I also have some Eue de Cologne mint as well and that’s lovely in your bath water.. :spinning:

@Verdun If you want to make mint tea get a Moroccan mint plant.. Steep in boiling water and add honey or Demerara sugar to taste.. Really refreshing and good for the digestion..

Thanks everyone fantastic tips and I too love the strawberry mint. Will give it a go as you said Marley, unfortunately quite a bit of the stems are also showing signs, you say burn them as in burn the removed leaves or singe the rust on the stem? :yikes:

Oh dear @AOG thats a shame then.. Sounds to me it is a bit too bad then.. No you would remove affected leaves and stems but if it is that bad you might not have a plant left.! I think I might be inclined to either take it back to the GC if bought this year and quietly inform them they seem to have a problem otherwise I think @Verdun is right and cut your losses and start again from another GC, but that is very frustrating I know.. We all think mint will grow anywhere and it will to a point, but it is very prone to rust and also leaf miners.. I hope you can sort it out quickly and successfully..
