I have a 7ft yucca plant (originally a house plant) it has been living outside the past 2-3 years and is doing well in a large pot. Now it has started to grow leaves at the base of the plant and the top looks scraggy. I want to plant it in the garden and tidy it up a bit should I top it or remove the side shoots. Any information would be helpful.

I take it this is the spineless yucca (yucca elephantipies) If so your lucky to get away with it outside all year, must be your mild winters there on the south coast.
You can do whatever you like with it, but it seems a shame to cut the top off. I think i'd leave it and just tidy up any dead leaves. Once its in the garden it should grow like mad, with a bit of luck.
