I bought one of these grape vines a few days ago which has a good amount of grapes already at the bottom of the plant.

Does anyone have experience of growing these plants and know if the grapes are edible when ripe or only for wine making etc !!!

The top of the plant seems to be drooping slightly even though I am watering it well....

It does seem to have been attracting tiny black flies or fruit flies and am I ok to spray these with a general greenfly/blackfly killer?

Andrew, Vitis Vinifera is the latin name for the grapevine as far as I know.
You really need more info. such as variety to say if they are good to eat.
Dont over water it let it dry out a bit between waterings, and its OK to spray it, but if you are thinking of eating the grapes at some stage, make sure you use a spray that is suitable for edible crops.

ah right I did a google on that and it did bring up a load of different varieties most of which were apparently very bitter to the taste. As I didnt buy it in a garden centre and there is not a lot of info on the card will just have to taste test at a later date!

Funnily enough as you said, on different websites it said not to water too frequently but on the card it says water well throughout summer but as they come from Italy / Spain where they dont get much water in Summer perhaps the card is wrong!!

Just a bit worried about the wrinkling up of the leaves and shoots at top of plant

If it came from the med. area then there's a good chance they may be palateable.
As for the distorted leaves, if its just a bit of black fly I wouldn't worry too much.
