    Hi Sugar Babes

    Beautiful day today.

    Kandy
Mrs shiney says hello as well - and to all the Babes.

On 'Nighty night' you said you were thinking of changing your hair colour from blonde to black.

Putting on my professional hairdresser hat - I would normally advise against it but it is difficult to comment as I don't know your natural colour, or the texture of your hair or your skin tones. As a general rule you shouldn't go black if your natural skin tone is pale - even if you are tanned. Also, if your hair is fine then it usually doesn't look too good to go black. I've never met anyone who has naturally blonde or light hair that it has worked well on. Also if your skin tone is light it makes you look older. The general recommendation is that as you get older you should keep to lighter colours because of the way it makes your skin look. Extremes of colour, black or very bleached hair work best in your teens and twenties. The other downside of going black is that if you don't like it you can't get rid of it. You can't bleach it out. also you would have to colour it very regularly (every three or four weeks) because the roots will show up very quickly because of the high contrast in colour.

Sorry to anyone out there who has gone black and looks very good with it but these are general rules on hair colouring.

I've got to log out for now because I have to colour Mrs shiney's hair so it looks good for the engagement. It looks good all the time but it will look even better when I have finished. [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

Love you all, Babes [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

Shiney. Thanks for that.I never realised just how complicated things could be.

Up until I was about 18 my hair was a golden yellow colour being very thick, but as my hair dresser said fine as well and only needed conditioner on the ends.
Gradually the golden colour went and the darker blonde I had beneath the golden colour came through, which remained like that until I started going grey in my middle forties.

I asked the hairdresser I was using at the time, what colour blonde I was and she said we call yours natural blonde whatever that means...

Whenever I had my photo taken in colour my hair always looked darker than it is in real life.

In some lights it looks one blonde colour and then in others it looks darker.
When I am in the sun for long enough,it turns even lighter, and the grey doesn't look too bad.

I don't want to turn like a badger or have steely grey colour hair

I am fair skinned, though at the moment I have gone a light brown colour on my arms and legs, after our holiday.

I will try to get a photo on here,so you might get an idea.I didn't realise you were a hair dresser.

By the way,I have never ever put bleach on my hair and use a shampoo called Timotei mild shampoo Golden Highlights...Camomile & Amber for blonde or highlighted hair.

I think you are right.I don't think black would suit me.
I must have been having a blonde moment

Have a great day.It must be nice having someone able to keep everyones hair looking good

    Thanks for the advice

    Kandy

from what you have said I would agree with you - don't even dream of going darker. If you are concerned about having grey showing then you could try having a semi-permanent colour on it. It is best to have a colour that is close to your natural colour, but preferably not darker.

The lighter semi-permanents don't cover grey as well as the darker ones but usually do a pretty good job anyway. As they are semi-permanent they fade over a period of weeks and you the harsh regrowth line that you see with permanent colours. You have probably seen a lot of women with a parting down the centre and the roots are a totally different colour from the rest of the hair. That shows the regrowth and is quite noticeable. Some of my staff used to joke about it and call it the 'skunk line' because of the stripe that skunks have down their back.

I can't recommend any particular make that you can buy retail because I only knew the professional colours. I would, naturally, only recommend that you go to a hairdresser. The price that salons charge don't always reflect the quality of work that is done. It is best to go on recommendation from friends.
