    Marriages are strange ... as I well know after 47 years ... :rolleyespink:

    I was the 'best man' at our friends wedding and everyone thought it would be my t'other half or his other best mate ... but he chose me ...

    Best Man.jpg

    ... strangely, after the wedding, she had nothing to do with me and we had known her for years whilst she was married and having an affair with our best friend ...
    :sad::noidea:

    Edit: Meant to say ... my t'other half on the left, the bride, me, then the groom. We are standing on a slope at the church (oddly next door to our house) ... t'other half is 5'8", bride is 5'7", I am 5'3" and groom is 5'6" so we all look a bit lopsided! :rolleyespink:

        So they sent you a "Save the date card in January", like 11 months notice. hum. If I gave someone 11 months notice to attend something, I would be sure upset if they could not make it.
        Ok, so back to the gift. I base my wedding gift--first on the estimated cost of the dinner that I will eat, booze and add to that. So as your not attending, and they gave you 11 months notice, I would send them something.

          I got married twice, once in 1979 and once in 1989. Paid for both my weddings myself. Kept the quest list short, do recall some of the gifts, decent money etc. Went on decent honeymoons also. The one thing that did bother me, was how rude people are that simply do not show up and say they would, and you paid for their meal. Got wise with the second one, said a smaller number to the caterers and sure enough did not get stuck, cause one couple decided to be a no show.

            Like Kandy, I've never seen any problem at a wedding - and I've been to lots.

              Redstar,we told the family as soon as we got the save the date card because Mr Kandy already knows that the place he works at is going to be busy in the run up to Xmas,it is the same every year and isn't going to change any time soon. When you are dealing with the public there has to be someone on standby to make sure that equipment is put right because if you don't then they are the first to complain:sad:

              The other year he was on call out over Christmas and we we're in the middle of a restaurant meal when his phone went off so he had to apologise to everyone and then had to stand outside in the cold talking to the people on the other end that had problems what they needed to do to try and put things right:sad:

              If the wedding had been on the Saturday or Sunday then there wouldn't have been a problem, but not on a day of the week when Mr Kandy has to work:smile: (Monday:smile:)

              Weekdays are not a good day for a wedding if you want people to attend.

              My staff would have had to book a days holiday and it would only be allowed if it was convenient. So it was the equivalent of costing them a days pay.

              In our business weddings were banned on Saturdays as it was the busiest day of the week. No member of staff wanted to get married on a day when their work friends couldn't go. It was fairly traditional to have their weddings on a Sunday.

              Picking the right day of the week only takes a bit of thought about who you want to be at the wedding.

              @Shiney,when I was younger weddings were always performed on a Saturday throughout the day, usually from around 11ish onwards to give the bride/bridesmaids time to have their hair done make up put on and then get into their outfits and relatives time to arrive.

              Sunday's had always been the day of Christenings and church services but I dont know what happens these days as not many people go to church or have weddings/ Christenings and the only time I see churches full is when Songs of Praise is on the telly or people go to the midnight church services on Christmas Eve :biggrin:

                Kandy, for my job, I am on call 7 days a week, 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. I deal with lots of human beings medical issues and staff situations. My cell is always on. When I go away, its planning, planning, planning. Making sure things are in place and being available to direct from afar. My recent away, for this Thanksgiving, got calls when traveling there, and some during, but it was handled. I make sure I have good well trained staff on site, that make correct decisions on their own. I am blessed to have some good staff.
