Welsh coast damage

    Hello, my most used seaside towns is Aberystwyth and it is in a sorry state. Massive seas together with high tides and winds have all but destroyed the lower prominade. I took a few photos, today 5th Jan, that I thought you my like to view. The houses are in a little place called Borth a couple of miles away. Their sea defence has been washed away and Monday 6th could be difficult for them.

      It's sad to see all the damage Hans, there's not much of Britain escaping this wild weather at the moment. Everyone is bracing themselves again for tomorrows tides.

        Thanks for sharing Hans, I feel sorry for those people living on the sea front - I guess they must have been evacuated. It looks like a disaster zone, well I suppose it is :(

                hello all,
                I popped over today tide still high at 5.1m. Still massive waves and some older landmarks have just not survived. Talking to one owner today at Borth, the sea came in through the back door and out the front along with the oil from his central heating tank. He now needs a new door amongst other things. The sea was something else with sunlight also playing a big part. Nice if you don't live there.

                  I have stayed on the front at Aba as well . Always remember the hang gliders going off the big hill there. Its such a shame , hope they get funding help from central government to repair the damage .

                    Oh dear Hans.. It's so sad to see the desolation left behind, but the poor people having their homes flooded won't just have central heating oil washing through, so much muck & nasties as well.. It must be devastating for them as it takes quite a long time to dry your house out after flooding, never mind all the work to be done..
                    Gosh had a few holidays in Borth as a kid in the 50s too.. We used to stay on a tiny site very close to the sea.. Just a few caravans & a toilet block.! :heehee:
                    The sea is awesome full stop, whether calm & beautiful or angry & full of foam...

                    BTW is the cliff railway still there & working.? Or maybe should I say was it.?

                    Like all the damage caused over the UK money will be needed and lots of it. But I feel sure repairs will be started as soon as the time is right. Preventing it happening again will be almost impossible. The sea is amazing treat it lightly at your peril. Thanks for the comments.
