:dancy: I found a welsh poppy whilst doing some weeding yesterday. It must have grew from seed from a plant i pinched from my neighbours driveway last year and its flowering already

This morning there were bees buzzing around dozens of welsh poppy flowers in my garden, but after the heavy rain this afternoon there's not many left intact.

The seed needs to be sown fresh, it has a fairly short life span after falling from the plant.

When you say "after falling from the plant" what if the seed heads have been cut off just after the petals have dropped?

If the seed was ripe when the pods were removed, then it will begin to die. Which is silly really, if you think about it. The seed which falls to the ground will stay 'wick' until Spring when it germinates. Odd, but I have found that stored seed of it always fails to germinate, no matter how I store it. I suppose Kew would manage with their hi-tech stuff.

                  Scrungee,
I have been cutting off all the dead heads that I can reach on about 6 plants in the front border and they just keep coming back with lots more flowers!
