What is the ideal soil for roses. I have just done a soil test on mine (all in containers on my balcony) and it has come out acid out of a choice of alcaline, neutral, acid, very acid. Actually to be accurate it probably leans a little towards acid and neutral.

In my book too. Roses do great in my clay, and I I think thats on the acid side of neutral, cos a few of the alkaline haters seem to ok in it.

Bear in mind that they are greedy feeders - so I would suggest a little slow release fertilisers, as feeding either with a foliar feed or such like.

If I had a favourite flower/plant, which I don't cos I like tooo many, then roses would be high on the list.

Rosietu, one of the reasons I would not want the sandy loam my father gardened on. Clay may be a swine to cultivate, and condition - but it is great for growing.

Well done you, for getting blooms from October planted roses - give em a few years, and I betcha they find meatier ground below the sand [IMG]
