What is this, and how big will it get?

    Afternoon all.

We've inherited this tree, which I think is some sort of cypress tree - from previous owners. It has been put in quite a small area by the previous owners - and looks like at some point it may well outgrow where it has been placed.

What is it, and what height will it grow to? Can it be pruned or will it eventually need to be removed? Are the roots awkward as well, given the proximity to concrete and the gas / electric pipes underneath the concrete.

    Many thanks!

It does look like Cypress, one of the many trees in the Conifer family. I think you are looking at a minimum of 20ft in height as it matures and probably root damage to mains services and property. If it was mine I'd remove it. From my own experience I wouldn't plant any conifer/pine within 40ft of buildings or services.

I remember my mum buying a 'rockery' conifer many years ago. It was cute and well shaped.
When it reached 30 odd feet tall i had to take it out cos she couldn't see her garden gnomes... True story, honest.
