I have just finished my favourite job in the garden, pulling Garlic scrapes. Yes ok a bit sad but I like the challenge of pulling them without them snapping and I love the very satisfying “ pop” if you get them out in a oner. Add in they are delicious to eat so removing them is top of my list.
Bottom is staking herbaceous plants. You can spend a fortune on fancy supports but I literally would need dozens so I either hope for the best and don’t stake or use canes and string. Somehow, however hard I try the staked plants look pants and I hate the job. I often manage to poke myself in the eye with a cane in the process, wrestling with something like Campanula Lactiflora which has grown enormous while my back was turned. Definitely bottom of my list. I wonder what others best and worst tasks are?

Mowing joint favourite with hand weeding and rotovating, which is fortunate  Really don't like making or distributing compost. The results have always been disappointing, even following the rules meticulously.

Favourite is picking crops - and then eating them :heehee:

Least favourite - removing stinging nettles

You can put eye protectors on the top of the canes. Good freebie ones are snail shells

What a brilliant idea @shiney . I have the odd rubber stopper topped canes but they seem to disappear over time. We have a nesting pair of Thrushes here who are tucking into our fairly large population of Snails. There are lots if empty shells around so first job tomorrow will be to find some and put them to good use. Many thanks.

Corks also make good tips for canes.
I wear glasses and in the garden I often use a pair of old safety glasses from work.

Least favourite- watering. It's dead boring and it feels wasteful to pour drinking water into soil.

Mixed feelings: cutting the grass. The scent and the quick results are a plus, the noise a minus.

Favourite: sowing and propagating things. It's so satisfying to give life to new things, visualising wonderful lush orchards that will magically appear from those neat rows of (potentially even labelled) pots. The inevitable disappointments, problems or horrors of accidentally finding 75 healthy tomato plants when you have room for three are yet to come. I just enjoy that moment when the pots are full and growth may commence. :)

I enjoy watering things, tidying/deadheading things in pots and tubs, and weeding, and taking cuttings, and sweeping the paths, and cutting things back when they are overgrown ... mostly pottering.

Things I don't enjoy are repotting plants, and getting Fuchsias ready for overwintering, and putting cacti and succulents to overwinter in lean-to ... generally getting ready for winter.

Least favourite tasks are mowing and weeding, which is why my mate Rob comes round and does them once a fortnight! Favourite task is definitely planting, there's nothing quite as enjoyable as getting the soil right and then adding a new plant to a border for me. Especially when it's not in flower and the planting is accompanied by that wonderful sense of anticipation!

I'm not sure planning could really be classed as a "task", but that would be my second favourite. In those unbearably short late Autumn days few things cheer me up as much as thinking about what features and plants I could add to the garden and what wildlife they could attract to it. :)
