Yesterday I went over to help hubby at the funeral directors, and then spent a little time in my mother-in-law’s garden...

I did a little weeding, lifted a few side-plants of her Japanese anemone, and took some cuttings of her salvia “hot lips”, and a lovely established fuchsia, which has a soft purple centre with cream outer petals. I don’t know if any of them will take, but it was worth a try....

:rain::rain::rain::rain::rain: since yesterday morning with a few very brief intervals. Too wet to do anything garden wise, except keep birds fed and Abernathe sorted out in his new accommodation. The day before yesterday I made a start on sorting out the border that runs parallel to the back garden. Cut back a purple loosestrife, a purple phlox a white marsh mallow, some weeding and dug out an aqualegia. I planted it back in the spring knowing I'd have to move in before winter as that end of the border gets quite wet and often waterlogged. It's now residing in a pot until next year. Still have half the border to finish but going to be busy over weekend with art stuff and a few other things.

Cleared out the rest of my tomato plants and put the green tomatoes in a brown bag to ripen up. Cleared out the dead cucumber plants. Put some pots out for recycle as they were either cracked or just plain dull. I am switching to as many colourful pots as I can for next year.
I purchased a pot of flowers last summer which is unusual for me because I normally grow everything from see. It was only 90p and I was happy to see it revive and make a pleasant display on my front porch. Got a little surprise when I saw a single stem of an Aster being a little prouder than the other plants. I love purple flowers. Decided that I was going to dismantle the pot to save the Aster. Pulled the pot out and lo and behold, the stem was merely peaking over the other plants in the pot and is firmly rooted in my front garden! Not exactly where I would have placed it but I'm thrilled :)

Well the lawn is basically a sodden bog thats now got an extra spring in it thats appeared in the last week.

No grass cutting or gathering the leaves then.

Bleached the **** out of patio instead. Looks almost as good as it did 20 years ago. The lichens were massacred.

Dug up a dead palm :frown: not sure if the beast from the east killed it or the heating muppet did by chucking kerosene into the flower bed. Really:scratch:

Pulled up the runner bean plants and dismantled the supporting canes. Dug over and weeded the bed they were in with other plants, then chopped a Sisyrinchium into four with a spade and replanted.

                          Hi,

                          WOW; no gardening this morning; no Blackie soaking me either and I've enjoyed a session in the workshop practicing TIG welding;

                          TIG practice_0002.JPG

Just another steep learning curve as I get used to the welder settings but I'm making steady progress with each session.:yahoo:

                          Kind regards, Colin.

Began planting up the raised bed this morning. More smaller agave to be planted once the grit arrives.

1 3/4 bulk bags of grit and a bulk bag of soil later and it still needs more. I think that Ive used more than I expected as the soil has filled the gaps between the grit.

Ive ordered two more bags of grit which will be overkill but I don't think that one bag will be enough and I'll use more grit for repotting other succulents. Grit/soil is banked up around the roots of the Agave until the additional grit arrives

Took a pup off the Agave webri and several pups off the Agave America lemon & lime. These will be potted up in the tunnel as insurance, just in case I lose the parents to the elements.

View from the living room. Yes …... the grass does need cutting and the moss killing. Just need a break in the weather and the ground to dry a little.

A bit of prep for next year this afternoon. I took the angle grinder to an old aluminium beer keg that I've been climbing over in the garage for years. It is now two planters that will look great filled with succulents.

Replaced the postbox (again). The last one has been fitted for a few months and was letting rain in and soaking the letters so that will be going back to the suppliers.

Then potted up the agave pups and potted on a few plants that had outgrown their containers.

That's it for today. Food and a nice bottle of something grape based a little later.

As it was mild and lovely and sunny I did a fair amount. Mainly mowing today. Did all the front lawns, the main back one and one of the others. About 1/4 acres :phew:. Also some weeding and tidying. :rolleyespink:
