Just curious as to what safeguards members use to protect themselfs online???

I used to use Mcafee but have now switched to AVG which to be fair does its job.

I also use Spysweeper for checks on spyware on my p.c and i have to say its worth every penny.

I have also used AVG free for around 2 years and been very satisfied but backed it up with SpyBot Search and Destroy, SpamBlocker, CCleaner, PC Registry and AdAlert. But then I decided to buy the AVG 8 and was able to dump all the others as it does everything. It updates every 4hrs and does a daily scan without freezing everything up like the free one did. Thus far I am very happy with it.

    BTW did you install msn?

I use Ubuntu Linux a FREE and open source operating system with no known working viruses you don't even really need a firewall (I'm bullet proof! LOL :D). Although if you use windows then i would recommend at least avg free and maybe zone alarm plus spybot search and destroy to prevent spyware:rolleyes:

I've got Macafee, but as to wether I need it or not I dont know.
We get so many scares regarding viruses etc. that unless you are in the Know, you just think you need to buy something.
Probably just another racket, selling the unsuspecting sequrity, but whos going to chance it.

Who makes these viruses anyway, I cant think some kid in his bedroom is doing it all the time.

Wonder if it could be the people that are selling us the sequrity, no it cant be, they must be really honest people, surely:rolleyes::mad:

If you get an email alert about a virus - try doing a Google for it - you'll be surprised how many are not viruses at all, just hoaxes.

I used Norton for years but have now moved to Bit Defender - it was very highly rated, does all I need and came a bit cheaper than Norton. Updates virus definitions every hour and I've set it do do a full system scan once a week.
Have to agree with kalmia latifolia regarding linux. I'd give it a go, but I've got so many odd peripherals attached to the pc and some programs that require Windoze.

I don't use any virus protection, mostly because I use the computer so little that there is nothing to protect, really...If occasionally the computer slows down I do a "system restore" to the previous day.

Miraflores don,t take this the wrong way, but Protection is a must when online.Your P.c may slow down because of spyware or a virus[you don,t know] A system restore wont totally cure the problem if there is one

I would urge you to get protection anyway miraflores. There are nasty little malware programs that can take over your computer and use it to launch attacks on other computers and servers. If that happens, you'll not only have a knackered computer, you may find your service provider blacklists you so you are no longer able to use the internet.

Having said all that, I know a couple of people who say that Windows Firewall is fine to protect your computer by itself (as long as you keep it updated). I'm not convinced myself, so I use AVG Free and have it scan every day.

The main difference between explorer and firefox is explorer is more prone to attack, all the hackers tend to attack mr gates empire and are constantly looking for vulnerabilities it's like a challenge to them, firefox is a more secure system,I run all of what Marley has plus ad-aware, crap-cleaner(brilliant programme) and spyware-blaster.
