It only went in the ground about September last year and the cats quite like playing with it so it gets trampled

Should i leave it be or should i cut it down a bit to promote new growth?

Give it a haircut and then put some wire mesh around it.

I have given it a haircut today thank you @kindredspirit

Im not going to put wire mesh around tho and the reason it is so flat is a cat fell off the fence on to it so don't want to end up with any injuries

also they only play with it when its big and long and sticking up as they sit under neath it so now its cut that would be an issue for a while

I cut mine right down to about a foot three weeks back. This will promote strong new growth. Also keeps the plant in nice shape aesthetically wise

I had a large one of these once until I asked for advice on how to rejuvenate it. I was told to burn it back in the spring to allow new growth. It didnt work so I had piece of border to fill and a lump of mud and root to dispose of :wallbanging:

Yes, just cut it back it will soon come up again. My 4 stone labrador used to throw himself into mine :dunno: just something he liked to do, but it still grew massive.
