I am asking members to please recommend me suitable plants. Thanks. I am new to gardening so I hope I explain well what I am looking for. Now my Dad has died I am the gardener for my Mums 2 gardens but I am a novice.

My Mum has asked me to replace some perennials she doesn't like.

    Her stipulations to me are

No plants that are just one colour.

    Very colorful flowers.

    Flowers years after year.

Flowers spring or maybe very early summer.

Keeps on growing in height and width year after year (and thus at some point in the future will need pruning).

I will show mw my Mum examples of your recommendations and let her choose what she wants.

    Welcome to GC wanoennogs. :)

I think perhaps it would be a good idea to work through your list first and establish what we should suggest.

Many plants are just one colour. Would your mum be happy with mixing the same plant together in different colours? Or does she want different species (types) of plants that have a different colour on each one?

These are called perennials which are mostly trees and shrubs. Also herbaceous perennials which die down over winter and return the next year, including bulbs.

This really refers to trees and shrubs although some plants, particularly ground cover plants, will not increase in height but will spread.
