Now I remember, I had a feeling Rothchildiana was a variety rather than the species, and I do wonder if its a more fussy version of the type, as I remember many years ago, on this site, someone showing a really quite large flowering one going up a trellis outside, in the UK.

I had reasonable sized tubers for a few years but it was just going backwards all the time, I had lots of tubers but all small.

Which is why I was thinking of the seeds I saw the other day.

July of 2009 I had this but only for a couple of years ...

It is a Rothschildiana as I still have the label.
I have tried with seed a couple of times since, not surprisingly with no success.

Hunting around, found this from 1992:biggrin: as a scan, its climbing through a grapefruit plant I had at the time. Gloriosa 92.jpg

The flowers seem to change colour as they age.

The flowers do change colour as they age darkening and becoming a uniform colour before losing the petals.

I had a look on Wikipedia & thee is some mention of the toxicity of the seeds but it seems you need to eat about 8 seeds before they will actually poison you!

The slugs have made the decision for me. Obviously not bothered by the toxicity!

                    That's a good one John.
Wonder if I'll live long enough to see mine do that.

Got a feeling my Musella lasiocarpa is about to flower, the leaves are getting really small and the stem is thickening.

Not mine unfortunately but a good size Albizia Summer Chocolate in Weymouth in flower. Difficult to get a decent view of it.

They are always best when viewed from above I think or from a distance.
The flowers are a darker colour than mine, to be expected I suppose.
