@strongylodon , when did you plant out the Butia?
Mines on its second summer outside, and has grown about five new fronds this year, last year it was very slow, I guess getting its roots down.

At least the washy is fast growing, so if you can keep it alive, it can come back reasonably fast.

Is it Palms that grow "sleep, creep and then leap"? or have I confused them with something else?

Not heard that expression, but I think it could be applied to the few palms I've tried.

But they always move quicker once planted out, after the initial settling in period, which varies IMO by how long they have been pot bound.

Been Stateside for the last week and this succulent bloomed whilst I was away - turns out to be an Echeveria.................

I bought it at a village plant sale in the spring for 50p. Last thing that I expected was an Echeveria...................

Did a clean up job on the Waggie today, not done much to it for about three years so lots of dead stuff up there, also took the chance to measure it, 18ft plus a bit was best I could work out.

          DSC_0128.JPG

THAT'S 18FT SIDEWAYS, STILL CANT WORK OUT WHY IT ALWAYS UPLOADS PORTRAIT IN LANDSCAPE

Is it a photo off your phone? or off a camera with auto-rotate?

Its just off my Nikon, If I take in portrait it always comes out sideways on here.
It appears as portrait in my own pics.

It was very dry when I returned and a lot of the small buds are gone. Plenty of the more mature buds left though.

Missed this Pete! I planted the Butia over two years ago, it was in a pot for three years before that. It is in front of a North East facing wall, not the ideal place for it, so it doesn't get the sun till late morning. It did suffer frond damage in the 2010 Winter and is only now looking half decent.

On my camera when I download the pics using Windows widget it auto-rotates them - so when they were opened they were right-way-up.

However, there are some advantages to using my Camera's APP to download (panoramic photos collected into separate sub-folders) and for reasons I don't understand that doesn't auto-rotate them.

If I then open them in a Photo APP on my PC they load auto-rotated, but the preview in Windows Explorer shows them all landscape. Because it annoys me I select them all and Right Click Rotate to sort them all out ... that also means that the picture file itself is then identified as being Portrait.

I crop / reduce etc. before uploading, so by the time I have done all of that the resulting file has a definite orientation.

If perhaps?? you are uploading images here direct from camera, or modified by something that doesn't alter the orientation, then I assume that the Forum software is not reacting to the Orientation that the camera's gimbal recorded "property" and just using the photo file's orientation instead

Yes I just put the SD card into the slot on my laptop.
Then click on "Upload a file".
If I download the pics onto my hard drive, they come out all the right way up, but when I try to upload even these ones, they all come out sideways.

Its simple but only works properly if the pics are taken in landscape form.
