The first morning sun for February has lit up the grasses and bamboo in my lower garden. I don't mind winter days like this!

The one on the right of the picture was getting out of hand and affecting shrubs alongside so we gave it a hard pruning last year. There are now loads of root suckers coming up
      upload_2026-2-15_5-26-52.jpeg

A closer view below. So we shall carefully dig them out and pot them up for sale. The charity will benefit from it  I also dug out enough Allium nectaroscordum to fill two boxes but I don't need to pot those up as someone is coming round for them today.

Some of our grasses which we shall be cutting back when we have some conducive weather

When we had to take down the greenhouse this was one of the ferns that was growing out of the paving inside. We have never put any of these ferns in there and the nearest plant is over 20ft away. We had a few of them in the paving and the seeds may have been brought in by cats who frequent the greenhouse. We have sold the other five that we removed.

This Maidenhair fern has recovered from winter and will soon bulk up again. It covers a good 10ft length of bed

Arum italicum has now also spread itself to other flower beds from here. Mrs Shiney uses the leaves in flower arranging but we need to dig out a lot from other beds.

When installing our new greenhouse it came up bigger than the old one due to the difference between the Imperial and metric measurements of the glass. Although they still sell them listed in Imperial it came as almost 2ft longer. So we have to make a step across the front and needed to dig out plants from the bed by the door. That entailed digging out some of Hydrangea annabelle so we have put some here where a large tree came down - have also put bulbs in there - and have potted up the rest of the annabelle.
        upload_2026-2-15_5-59-6.jpeg

We also had to dig out some Cyperus alternifolius and have just placed six of them here. A neighbour will be coming with his wheelbarrow to pick them up and we shall dig up some other plants for him. He has a few barrow load's of plants each year.

Has winter even hit your garden @Plantminded :heehee: still looks crisp and full of life .

I like the grasses with the evergreen background @shiney , surprised the dogwood has sent suckers out like that I've not seen one do that before. The Hazel will very likely resprout . The witch hazel is looking well I've got Jelena an orange one but I think I should of got a yellow version it stands out better .

Haven't got much at the moment got a couple of pictures the other day few snowdrops the rest will be up soon.

Thanks. What looks like green ground cover in the foreground is hundreds of Nigella. In most of the garden they quite often out compete the weeds!
