      Hi,

      Many thanks wiseowl. Yes I've got plenty of work to do because it never lets up; retired now for 19 years and struggling to get workshop time.

      This morning it was leaves; but there's always something to divert me from what I want to do; a couple of days ago I thought great a full day in the workshop at last; then the usual diversion. Bron informed me the bathroom fan heater was lit up but the fan wasn't running and no heat; here's my reply;

      Bathroom heater_0001.JPG
      Out of sight against wall; fluff blocking motor vents.

      Bathroom heater_0003.JPG

      Inside the fan heater more fluff build up causing the motor to overheat and cut out. This kind of thing can be highly dangerous especially in a tumble dryer. These fan heaters have safety cut outs. It's paramount to isolate the power before removing the cover. Out of interest and I can say after 55 years of owning a workshop I still get caught out. I took the unit into the workshop and blew away all the fluff using the compressor airline; back in the bathroom all went well and the main unit was quickly reinstalled to the wall and connected; I picked up the cover but had forgotten both mounting screws were still in their respective holes in the cover out of sight; I did however hear them tinkle as not one but both dropped into the sink and straight down the plug hole. RIP two screws rust in peace in the sink trap you've been replaced by two suitable stainless steel wood screws; don't mess with me because I've had lots of practice.

      If it's not our problems it's someone else's problem. Our postman does gardening as a part time job but a few days ago he asked me to do him a personal favour; could I bring along my drill and spirit level to a neighbours house just across the street? He and a chum have now branched (?) out into DIY and neither seem to have a clue as to what they are doing; they had mounted a wall cabinet the wrong way round in our neighbours house. NO was the reply; I won't enter a neighbours house without the neighbour's permission; he said it's OK the neighbours are away and won't know. So he and his chum have messed up but expect me to sort out their mistake whilst entering our neighbours house sneakily? Because Bron and I are retired and I've got a well equipped workshop we're here to sort everyone's problems out; it's amazing what we get asked to do and now when we say NO it's unacceptable; we've not yet been asked to rob a bank because someone is short of cash but nothing at all would surprise us any longer. Perhaps I might have wandered off topic but I don't know any better. :biggrin:

      I'm all for encouraging anyone to try new things and to better themselves but not take on paid jobs if they haven't a clue how to do the job or have the tools for the job. I blame our neighbours for penny pinching employing people without skills. I've had years of practice but can still lose a couple of screws?

      Kind regards, Colin.

            Still a bit of frost in the shady areas but the sun has burnt it off elsewhere. :blue thumb:

                Hi,

                Thanks shiney; me help; no way because I'll do the whole job for you. :biggrin: I've got two spare screws if you want to get wet hands? :biggrin::dbgrtmb:

                I'm pleased you enjoyed my rambling this morning Jenny; I can be a keyboard warrior once I get going; I only use one finger for typing but it's a laser finger. :)

                Of course no way could I do any practice welding in the workshop today. After dinner I thought great time now to wander into the workshop so I got wrapped up like an Eskimo and in I went. After no end of hassle obtaining a 20L cylinder of pure argon I was finally geared up; first job to couple up the gas cylinder to the regulator; switch the welder on then open the cylinder valve; great the high pressure came straight up but what's happening to the low pressure; the needle went right past the danger red zone even though the regulator knob was closing the low pressure?

                Two journey's over to Wakefield then this afternoon; taking along the regulator I asked to please test my regulator and I'll pay for the service; a cylinder was brought to the counter and with me standing there embarrassed with a red face the regulator showed to be fully working; as I looked at it I said this cylinder has only 100 bar pressure in it and I know my regulator has been working perfectly with cylinders at 137 Bar pressure; I felt such a fool but because I was adamant about the problem I was then asked to collect the new full 200 bar pressure cylinder from home; so the second journey to Wakefield transporting the heavy cylinder this time.

                Strange now to watch the regulator go right into the low pressure red zone as I had been describing to them. The diagnosis is it's a faulty cylinder so I'm once again without gas and without cylinder which is to be replaced shortly. I've been around the block a few times and am unconvinced the cylinder is at fault; the regulator is there to isolate the high pressure from the cylinder and if the regulator is closed no pressure should be seen on the low pressure gauge.

                Hands up all of you who understand what I'm on about? Why should I simply dig holes to drop a plant in when I can make my life so highly complicated? :scratch:

                Tomorrow is already set for more problems.

                Kind regards, Colin.
