Which Hawkmoth

    Found this large moth on my gate - deliberatly left the gate handle in to give a perspective. But which hawkmoth is this?

    It`s a privet hawkmoth Fran

    Generally found in the south of England at this time of year. Not as common as they used to be.

    The interesting thing about them is that the chrysalis can lay dormant 6 ins underground for up to two years.
