Given this yesterday by a rellie, told it was an unwanted white hydrangea, and it`s desperate to be either in the ground or re-potted, I didn`t really look at it, chucked it in the car, when I got home and was lifting it out, realised it`s not an hydrangea I don`t think so anyway. Thanks for your help Woo!

Thanks for new close up pics Pamsdish.
There are several sp of Hydrangea. Your new one is just another one!
Try comparing the leaves of Hydrangea arborescens Annabelle to Hydrangea paniculata...very different but still both Hydrangea.

Thanks @Silver surfer and @wiseowl I have never done much with hydrangea, I have a pink lace cap that just exists in a bad spot in my garden, quite like the look of this white one as the flowers are lighter and frothy, :heehee:, if it stays the same, which leads me to my question will it stay white, and not be affected by soil acidity etc.
I will repot it into a bigger pot and fresh compost as it looks a little stressed to me, and as the size is indeterminate consider where it`s going finally.

Looks like Annabelle to me but the petals seem to be spaced a bit wider than normal. This could be because it's a young plant.

Annabelle has the soft stems and the lighter colour leaves that seem to be what you have.

              It`s Hydrangea petiolaris (climbing Hydrangea).

              Interesting thought daitheplant.
I am not sure that Hydrangea Annabelle is THE correct answer.
It was just a suggestion for pamsdish to check the different leaves that Hydrangea sp have.

Having said that..I am not sure that Hydrangea-anomala-subsp-petiolaris is correct either.
The flowers of which are very lacey and dainty.
              The leaves are quite round.
Does it have aerial roots on the stem?

pamsdish maybe you could ask your friends if it is a climber or not?

It clings by using roots on the stems, yes.

dai..that was a question for pamsdish...to ask if her shrub has aerial roots...that are typical of H. Petiolaris.

It was given to me by my early stage dementia ex husband, so wouldn`t ask him, I will check the stems tomorrow, pouring with rain and going dark, please don`t argue over this.
