Been here 40 years and never had such a big hole dug plus committing murder at the same time.
Perhaps it was trying to bury the evidence... didn't make a very good job.
The hole was deeper than portrayed in the pic and bigger than my hand. Fox??

I'd say a Foxy. Maybe it wanted to save some as a snack for later. :heehee:

May have been a tandem effort. Fox killed it, badger tried to hide it and got hungry half way

Cat/Bird of Prey + Badger would also be possible

          PS:
Did you, by any chance, hide some landmines in your yard and set them to "Dove-only"? :mute:

I've lost many of my roses due to foxy. Rhey will often dig, just for the fun of it. Also they dig for worms.

Voting for fox. Had squirrel buried in the garden recently. And saw the fox.

                  Not so funny story:
Foxes are actually the main victims of WWII munitions around were I live. They dig around and tend to play with whatever they find.

                  Makes me really sad

Ok so the vote seems to be for a fox :dbgrtmb:

Just out interest why would a fox dig such a big hole in a raised patio bed....nothing edible there, except worms !

Never seen a Badger around here.
