the recent heavy and persistent rain has energised plant and lawn growth like artificial watering can never do. I think it has to do with the atmosphere that accompanies rainfall....maybe plants and nature form some sort of symbiosis? Of course the heavy rain has far exceeded the amount of artificial watering I do or can do but I have noticed the difference even with low levels of rainfall. Rain too is without the chemicals that accompany our tap water and perhaps this is a factor Opinions? It all means two lawns now in need of mowing and it seems I will have to wait for the weekend to do this ....it will be then
I've always noticed the same, but not sure why other than with rain you get a general rise in humidity over a longer period. I also think it is difficult to put that amount of water on by either a hose or sprinkler,... which mostly amounts to what would be considered a light shower.
Only had a day of it here The slight acidity to the rain makes it much more beneficial to the garden than I could ever do with such hard tap water here.
I think it's a combination of factors....whatever, we've had a week of the good stuff just when things were getting critical.....thankyou, thankyou, thankyou.... I don't mind mowing.....
Interesting topic! Until yesterday evening, it has not rained for quite a while here. So long in fact that there is a water shortage in most parts of the country. Despite that, for some reason, everything has been growing like crazy. As an example, I've been mowing the lawn every second or third day, and it is showing no signs whatsoever of drought. In fact, it is greener than it usually is! I'm beginning to wonder if some of it is due to the fact that there are a few diesel vehicles (=tractors) here in the village. Diesels emit nitrates and carbon. Both of which are beneficial to plant life, so could be considered free fertiliser!
