              What a super find.
Agree with nikolaos..Anacampsis pyramidalis....common name Pyramidal orchid.
Orchids can be so hard to id.
Sometimes it can involves close examination of the inside of a single flower.

Oh good...at least on Motorway verge people cannot pick them or dig them up.
I sure hope the local council know they are there and do not send in the team of guys to cut the verges.
Maybe contact your local Wild life group to make sure they know where they are.
Local councils are more inclined to listen when Wildlife groups get in touch.

I have all the books on UK Wild flowers, have been to several talks/lectures on Orchids/been on field trips where experts have explained why this orchid is ...x and that one y.
They are fascinating. Yet I still struggle.
Pyramidal orchid is one of the easy ones to id.
Just gorgeous to see them in a mass.
                  Well spotted.

                  Torrential rain here this afternoon.
Plants thrilled to get a proper soaking.
                  Humans...Hmm! Maybe not so thrilled.

wiseowl....how very lucky you are to have such a huge nature reserve near your home.
Enjoy it as often as you can.
It will be very special for birds, insects and butterflies as well as flowers.

@wiseowl Wow, you are lucky, mate! You may even have the pleasure of seeing this lovely orchid in another location at some point, they're commonest in the south-east. Looking forward to seeing your photos!
