I dont think we have had a wimbledon thread this year.
So I'm guessing no one is really all that interested.

But I watched the women's final this afternoon and I've got to say at the start I was not that bothered who Won.

It was only when the BBC started off with their biased commentary from two Americans, Tracy Austin and Mc Enroe that I decided I just didn't want Williams to win.

The BBC are diabolical at this kind of thing, and it was really strange how the commentary suddenly shifted,..... even afterwards Tracy Austin is still being allowed to waffle on.

Wimbledon, it starts in July and then goes on for two or three months I think :snorky:
A proper sport starts next week , The Open Golf at Royal Birkdale , about 12 miles away from me. All over in 4 days :blue thumb:

Golf, is hardly a spectator sport, let alone a sport, its basically a lot of walking around trying to find a little ball that you blasted into the distance.

I'm not sure where your coming from regarding Wimbledon lasting two or three months.
        it's only two weeks, I think:scratch:

I actually enjoy Wimbledon although I don't think that grass is the best surface for the modern game. These men and women are true athletes.

Golf? A very good way to muck up a perfectly good walk!

Not sure I agree with you about grass @longk. Ok I am not in my 1st youth any longer and played a somewhat different game with different rackets and different balls but to me a good grass court was and still is the very best surface to play on. 2nd in my day would be wood. Both used to be lightening fast so none of this extremely , to my mind, boring rallies that go on and on.
I don't agree with you about golf either:). While I played tennis professionally I only took up golf later in life. It is an incredibly frustrating game where a very small error at your end makes a hideous amount of difference where the ball goes and as a very so so amateur I experienced this A LOT. I've played some incredibly beautiful courses in some quite wild parts of Scotland which I doubt would really be accessible if courses hadn't been built around them. You can play golf and enjoy a good walk at the same time, in my case lots of walking, looking for my lost ball!
However, vive la difference. I can't think of anything worse than spending an evening listening to chamber music but sure others would find it enthralling.

Interesting to hear the pro's point of view. However, speaking as a spectator (who loves chess) clay is my preferred surface. Probably harsher on the players bodies though?

                        I do enjoy Wimbledon.
Two years ago we were lucky enough to obtain tickets for the men's semi final.
I must say it was the best day out I have ever had ,even though Federer thrashed Andy Murray.

It was a shame Andy Murray had a injury, he could have won it.

We watched most of Wimbledon when we could but were disgusted that the BBC can squander our Licence Fee by having THREE comentators!!! on 'selected important' matches.
Also the Dr Who thing during coverage??
