hello all from a newbie and novice gardener from belfast.

i have a fairly large (in my opinion) garden which has a wee mixture of lawn, potatoes, greenhouse and patio.

the patio is at one side of our house and has a 2 metre high fence on two sides.

on one side the fence is elevated & pretty ugly and has an unused strip of good soil about 1 metre wide.

i'm thinking of planting trees or bushes or hedges along this strip which would add to privacy and wind-break protect the patio.

preferably something which will grow thick, evergreen and to about a height of about 2 metres only.

also i prefer no maintenance and would not want to have to cut at all.

any suggestions would be most welcome.

I think a mixed wild life hedge would do the job ,I have one that I keep to 6ft by cutting once a year, although the Hawthorn is deciduous but it is very protective :) and fast growing and easy on the pocket :) just a suggestion:dbgrtmb::)
