Have a look at this. Photos taken last year.

Built in 1987 from roofing ply and cheap rough-sawn untreated 4" X 4" , 3" x 2" soft wood (cheaper way to buy it then plane and sand it down yourself). and ready planed 2" X 2" , 2" X 1". Plus some Victorian style soft wood skirting boards.
Coats of Dulux mahogany Wood Sheen, as I previously mentioned, refreshed every five years or so. No rot. Even the decorative panels I cut out with a jig saw, permanently exposed to the weather have not de-laminated.
I did change the roofing felt to a non-tear polymer fabric, about eight years ago.

There again. Our garden shed, "in all it's glory" today, I built from re-claimed roofing ply panels and 3" X 2" soft wood plus three of next door's old windows when they had them changed for double glazing. It was for our seven year old daughter's expanding collection of rabbits and guinea pigs. She'll be celebrating her fiftieth birthday this year.

Err.. "She isn't still at home."

Same treatment. No rot. All exposed wood needs regular maintenance. It like the tea-house is built off the ground on low brick piers. Important for any wooden building, so there's some airflow below it.

Just thought I'd throw this in the mix regarding outdoor board we use a lot of board called Tricoya, also lots of timber called Accoya.

Its basically a treated softwood in the case of Accoya and an exterior form of MDF in Tricoya.

I've made a couple of water butt lids from Tricoya, just scraps really, so they stay pretty much wet on one side and often wet on both sides, no treatment.
No signs of deterioration after two years, but the stuff is designed to last much longer.

OSB is pretty rubbish to be honest @Jack Sparrow

The first of a couple of garden related projects that I made a while ago. Both are in what I usually call the Tea Shed, mentioned previously on this thread.

This first photo shows the unfinished fire surround in placeā€¦.

Finally, the finished piece in place...

Wow! That is just stunning @Sandy Ground.

I couldn't even begin to contemplate how to do those dovetail joints.

Certainly admire the dovetail joints Sandy. Remembering my school days, we used a metal template for marking out the dovetails. YES! I like many other kids, ended up cutting out the wrong bits.

A few years ago, having ideas of doing some carpentry. I purchased a special jig from Axminster tools. The idea is to drill out much of the joint and trim with a sharp chisel. I still have not tried it out.
