Looks like a very interesting place to visit, woo; thank you for sharing it with us (might be tempted to visit there myself one day).

Never seen a green pillar box before, but its very striking.

        Nice one Woo

All post boxes were green till someone hit on the idea of painting them a different colour to the hedges that most of them were in :ideaIPB::heehee:

Good afternoon @Jiffy and @Zigs and thank you my friends:smile:

Rochester’s very first fire engine which dates back to 1740 has been restored to its former glory.

The fire pump was famously created by Richard Newsham who patented the design for what is now regarded as a very early type of fire engine.

In its day, the pump was stationed wherever the mayor decided and it could shoot water from a distance of up to 40 metres.

The cart-like body featured a water tank that required constant filling by bucket from the back.

Now the machine has been lovingly restored by Fairbourne Carriages, a firm which has refurbished some of the Queen’s carriages.

It will go on permanent display at the Guildhall Museum in Rochester and on occasion will be based outside, where it probably once stood when it was in use in the 1700s.

The refurbishment was funded from the Guildhall Museum’s public donations, used to improve collections and make them more accessible.
