We had a drive out to Worden Park in Leyland just south of Preston this week. Its only 8 miles north of me but I had never visited it. What a lovely place ! Acres of parkland with a huge kiddies playground , model railway etc.. Stream with follies built around it etc. As usual I only took 2 photos ! The first is a Lebanese Cedar planted for Victoria's golden jubilee in 1800 and odd , obviously not planted very well ! The greenhouses behind are full of tropicals , brugmansias etc. The second photo is a huge walled garden which was the kitchen garden the photo shows the melon pit cold frames and greenhouses behind. Worth a visit if you have the time.

Nice pictures Harry. :) I think you'll find Queen Victoria hadn't been born in 1800. 1887 might ring a bell for the Golden Jubilee though.

John , the melon pit was empty , but it looked like they had grown a full crop of melons. All the walled garden kitchen vegetable beds had or were being used as it was in Victorian times . The actual parkland ,gardens , maze ,greenhouses etc are very well looked after . I actually worked about half a mile away from here once but never visited it !
