Scattered some seeds in one bed back in the spring to fill it this year while I worked on the rest of the garden. Had a good display of cornflowers and poppys through the summer but it's now filled with 8-10 large long-leaved clumped plants. I have no idea what they are and whether I want to keep them - I could easily have purposefully scattered the seeds there and now forgotten, but they could equally have blown in from elsewhere! I want to clear this bed soon and work on something more longterm for it; any ideas on what this plant may be and whether it's worth saving? Aware it might be a longshot without flowers or more of a background!

      Possibly evening primrose, a biennial.

@2nd_bassoon Evening primrose is often added to wildflower mixes due to its pollinator friendly attributes for daytime and night-time insects - The other benefits are its an easy non-fussy plant and fabulous fragrance ...as its named suggests....in the evening ;) I transplant any of my stray EP seedlings its very forgiving as long as you get plenty of soil surrounding it - ive had no bother i tend to move them to the back of the border as they do get quite tall - hope that helps :dbgrtmb: also
Heres a good link with video footage of Monty Don transplanting EP

I have EP seedlings growing in my garden but they have a rounder leaf and not quite so long. Admittedly, mine are a variegated variety, so that may make a difference? :noidea: (I'll take a photo for comparison tomorrow). I do recall the roots being a thick white type - not too dissimilar to bindweed roots.

Thanks guys. Evening primrose would make sense - pretty sure I scattered at least one wildflower mix in there! Will dig one up tomorrow and take a look at the root :)
