    Aloha everyone,

Bright and sunny today but no gardening for me. I'm off shortly captaining the county bridge team in a match against Essex. It'll be a very closely fought match.

We saw the cat later this morning all nice and fluffy :dbgrtmb:

    Have a great day

    Aloha

      Good morning everyone,

It's a bit dull out there this morning and rain plus strong winds are due to hit us this afternoon so hopefully it will wait until my washing is dry first:snork:

Moyra hope the visit from the landlady went off ok and that she doesn't decide to sell the place now you have spent all that money on itand by rights she should drop the price of the rent ,not put it up

Loli, yes I forgot that chooks like to eat slugs, but we can't have any as our garden is too small and with three cats they would soon end up as a meal for them:frown:

      Shiney,I assume you were playing against yourselfs yesterday as the place you live is in Essex and you were playing an Essex team or is that just a different league? :runforhills: {Sorry i don't know an awful lot about Bridge:whistle: }

Woo,hope you have a lovely Birthday today and time spent with your family and Grand kids:spinning:

Anyway we managed to get a nice pleasant seven mile walk in on Saturday afternoon although it was a bit chilly when we turned round and walked back to the car:SUNsmile: Yesterday morning we went to the lottie and while i picked more raspberries Mr Kandy weeded the peas.We have our first pods growing and have found some beans on the Runner beans so will soon be eating the first ones of the year:yay:

Had to push my car to the top of the drive yesterday and today we will have to try and bump start it to get it to the car hospital so just hope they can get it fixed today:snork:

      Enjoy your day everyone:spinning:

      Aloha everyone,

Yesterday was a very nice day but it started drizzling at 5.30 this morning - just when I had decided to work on cutting the hedges. The laurel is getting out of hand as I missed the regular time to cut it because the birds were late in nesting. A friend will come and help me (when it's not raining) and it will take us all day with two hedge cutters.

We won our match yesterday :dbgrtmb: by a reasonable margin. :)

Moyra, I'm sure your landlady would approve of the work you've done and hope that she doesn't increase the rent.

Loli, do you want to lend us your chooks? They would love our garden and especially our slugs. Mrs Shiney collected over 400 yesterday :rolleyespink:

She also cut back one of our choisyas that was getting out of hand. It was 7ft high and about 6ft diameter. Now it's only stumps. We'll have to see how long it takes to recover. I added it all to our, already, large bonfire heap and had a good burn up last night.

EDIT: Kandy, you posted whilst I was typing this and also making a cuppa for Mrs S. I was captaining the Hertfordshire team . I hope your car gets sorted out OK. Our bean plants have just started to have tiny beans on them. The plants are over 10ft now and have plenty of flowers but hadn't been getting any beans. That's probably because of the shortage of bees because of this weather.

Have a great day and keep well

      aloha

Aloha everyone. Well the meeting went well with the landlady but her daughter kept winding me up with statements that weren't helpful. Each time she said something like, well you know you have been enjoying a lower rent here than the market value I felt like saying well you could hardly charge us the going rate with rain coming in the back bedroom and the disgusting state the decoration was in instead I said yes well you have just had a heating system completely renewed at no cost to you and now all this decorating and I would think 16 years of uninterupted rent is worth something on its own. So I am expecting an increase but I stipulated that as a new lease I wanted Steve recognized on it as a permanent resident and also Amber as being allowed as previously included in the lease.

Well all my peas, beetroot and carrots are all finished now and I didn't know whether to sow some more or give it a rest. Think I will give it a rest this year and see what next year brings.

Not so nice this morning, got a bit damp walking Amber as it was that fine rain coming down. She didn't care. Well I hope you all have a good day, take care everyone. Aloha:wub2:

      Aloha everyone,

Yesterday it drizzled all day but, apart from going shopping, I went outside to feed the courgettes, toms and chillies. Whilst I was out there I did my daily job of winding in the runnerbeans. I've never known them to grow so fast :rolleyespink: and some of them have now reached 15ft. There are loads of very tiny beans on them now so, with a bit of luck we shall be eating them next week.

It's sunny out there now

Keep well and have a great day

      Aloha

      Good morning Shiney and everyone:smile:

Moyra, how disgusting that the landladies daughter had to keep goading you like that about the rent. As you say you have been a good customer of thiers for all those years and they havn't even had the decency to keep the place up to a good standard while you have lived there.Pity there are no laws to make them pay out of their pockets to keep the houses/flats in a good condition and i bet the home they live in is like a palace:frown: Our carrots are rubbish this year and despite resowing we only have one at the moment and it is too late to sow any more so will have to buy the cheap ones from Mr T:snork:

Shiney, the car problem was the battery which cost nearly £98.55 to replace then there was the diagnostic check and the VAT so not much change out of £190. Our beans are growing well but the tiny beanwon't be ready for eating for a couple of weeks yet.I see now what you mean about playing for Hertfordshire in the bridge comps:biggrin:

The sun is shining out there this morning so hopefully will have a nice day weatherwise so might get some more raspberries picked today but the ground will be a bit soggy after yesterdays rain:snork:

      Aloha everyone,

I enjoyed some lovely small carrots from the ones I sowed. I pulled them small because that is how I prefer them. The beetroot I pulled were small to middling again as I like them. The peas were disappointing. I thought I would crop more off them but they seemed not to rebloom once picked if you know what I mean. so they had become very straggly and nothing much on them so I cleared them.

Lovely morning this morning what a treat to walk Amber in the sunshine! Might be able to do something useful in the garden today. Have a lovely day everyone.

      Aloha:wub2:

      Good morning everyone,
I'm going with my brother to the Driffield Agricultural Show today:dbgrtmb:we used to go every year but haven't been for the last few...I bought a handmade trug from there 15 years ago and it fell to bits at the weekend...so i'll see if i can get another one today...but this time i will use it for it's purpose instead of putting all and sundry in it...
We've been advised to wear boots as there is a possibility of 'showers'....the sky is looking rather grey at the moment but we'll be prepared....it's the only event so far this year that hasn't been cancelled so we'll make the effort:dbgrtmb:
I hope you are feeling well today,Take care:SUNsmile:

      Aloha everyone,

Looks a bit dull out there. Roy is supposed to be coming round to help me with the hedge cutting. Actually it's me helping him. The laurel on the front has got a bit out of hand as I couldn't cut it before Open Day because the birds were still nesting. He has professional cutting equipment that is much too heavy for me to use so he will do the job. I'll use my gear, a 6ft extendable electric cutter, to do the privet hedges - for the third time this year as they're growing so fast. I'll have to leave all the cuttings to be picked up by Mrs Shiney (I'll pick up as much as my back will allow).

I'm off for my regular visit to the chiropodist later this morning. I have regular appointments with a number of health professionals - chiropodist, chiropractor, dentist, optician etc - and it's all paid for by my health insurance. It costs me less than most of my friends pay for their satellite TV service or mobile service - both of which I don't bother with. I get my money's worth out of them

Slugs are getting out of hand now, even with Mrs Shiney collecting up to 400 per day. I did some mowing yesterday and must have mowed up over 100!!! On the bright side, only about 30 of our bean plants were eaten by slugs (a lot of which we replaced with spares) and they're growing faster than I've ever seen. With my new system of growing them I shall be letting them reach 15 - 20 ft and see how heavy a crop we get - when we actually get any :heehee:. The beans are starting to show their little furry heads now :dbgrtmb:.

Penny, I hope you are coping with the heat. :dbgrtmb:

Kandy, yes :yahoo:, they are saying it will improve from the weekend.

Keep well, everyone and have a great day

      Aloha!
