A lovely Spring afternoon - patio door open and I can hear the cuckoo down in Saxonwood at the bottom of our road :yay: . It really does tell me that Spring is here at last.
    Anyone else heard him yet?

          :dancy: :dancy: :dancy:

I took a slightly different route around the woods this morning and *bingo!* I heard my first, ever, cuckoo  I had to stand still for a few minutes just to capture the sound in my mind; it's a really sweet sound, not a deep sound as I thought it would be.

Seems to only be in that part of the wood though; I'll go that route tomorrow morning now

Since we moved to South Gloucestershire, we go to the River Severn near to Oldbury Nuclear Power Station every spring to hear and if we are lucky to see cuckoos. A couple of years ago we even managed to take a photo of one, sitting on a post with the Power Station behind it  . The photo is not as sharp as I'd like it be since I was in too much of a hurry to catch an image or two before it flew off, still I've treasured it ever since. Here is the photo:

This year we're still waiting for spring to arrive! At the moment the icy winds blowing up the Bristol Channel are deterring us and, probably, the cuckoo :dunno:

I have lived in leafy Surrey now for 14 years. The first year I heard a cuckoo, but have never heard it since. Now that is sad, as it is one of the most lovely sounds in the bird world, me thinks.
