    Hi,

New kid on the block but I know quite a few members already so I'll soon settle in.

My wife Bron and I live on a steep valley side which is very challenging regarding gardening in fact it's challenging just to stand upright. I have three companions whilst gardening or doing any work outside; Blackie my personal big black cloud which ensures I'm never troubled by dust and his sister Gale who is constantly trying to blow me over or do her best to remove our bungalow from the valley side as she's doing again today. My third companion is most welcome and she's "Soots"; a black cat that must belong to Captain Kirk because I never see her approach she just arrives and lets me know by rubbing against my legs; when she leaves she disappears at speed over the wall at the top of the garden; I keep a small bag of biscuits in my pocket for her. :yahoo:

I notice in the forum rules we've to remain on topic; oh dear. :help:

    Kind regards, Colin.

          Welcome Colin. :)

I'll be one of those then. ;)

We do try to stay on topic especially in the gardening forums/threads but have been known to wander a bit in the Off-Topic Discussion area. So don't worry you'll be fine. :blue thumb:

              Hi,

Thanks everyone for your warm welcome. :hapfeet:

Yes Sheal definitely one of them and nice to hear from you; has Blackie paid you a visit recently? WOW over 29,000 messages; do you ever go to bed. ;)

What's your bike Perki; my last bike was a BMW R75/5 in 1973 since then I've had a roof over my head. I used to do Wakefield/London and back in a morning but things are a lot different these days. :) I've got a picture of me riding a Brough Superior SS80; One sold at Bonhams Auction for £291,200 whereas a Brough Superior SS100 sold for £315,200; in my biking days I had chance to buy an SS100 for £34 but then that was all the bike was worth.

I'm heading your way on Saturday morning lolimac to Rufforth Auto Jumble (York); a guy thing and to me it's like a candy store to a child; I always return home with urgent items I didn't know I needed. Whoopee.

Thanks Jack Sparrow; I'm a great wanderer as I'm sure Sheal will confirm. I like your moggy; Bron and I are cat lovers and although we no longer have a cat we feed every cat for miles around; bird nuts and cat food are costing us around £20 per week and the thanks we receive are bombing runs from the birds especially pigeons and all the neighbours cats who follow me around to leave me little presents in freshly turned soil.

The first forum I ever joined years ago had moderators behaving like traffic wardens on speed; they used to jump on spelling mistakes and poor grammar; I'm still a member but seldom post these days because I no longer restore vintage radio's and to wander off topic on that forum meant being arrested. :wow:

              Kind regards, Colin.

Its a Triumph Daytona 675 SE 2010 its getting on a bit now but still only done 6500 miles. I can't say I know anything about the bikes you were referring to way way before my time, be handy if I had one at this present moment in time £££.

I wouldn't worry about spelling / grammer etc, its very laid back here :dbgrtmb:

Colin, we have 2 cats and 2 dogs. We also seem to be a dumping ground for everybody else's dogs. Dog poo in the garden is a constant problem. Cat poo isn't a problem though as they tend to do theirs in other people's gardens.

                          Hi,

Thanks Perki. I've ridden many makes and sizes of bikes but I've never owned a Triumph; I've ridden Triumphs T100; T110; Thunderbird and Trident the nearest I got was when I bought a TriTon; Norton featherbed frame with T110 engine installed; it had the 5 gallon alloy tank; rear sets; clip ons and fork gaiters. One of the worst bikes I ever owned was a Norton 750cc Atlas; every time this hit 110 mph it shattered its piston skirts; I was forever visiting Watson & Cairns in Leeds to buy new pistons. I used to do around 10,000 miles per year and virtually lived on my bikes out in all weather.

Me on Brough Superior SS80 around 1972.

                          Bikes_002. 1971..JPG

My first BMW in 1971 R75/5 this was the bike to own in its day and now its a classic and rightly so. Bought second hand at a year old; I ran it a year then traded in for a brand new same model same colour. I could have bought a terrace house for the price of this bike.

Are Triumphs still made here in the UK?

We don't have a dog problem here Jack; it's mostly cats around us and lots of them; everyone has its own character and we make a fuss of the lot of them. You mentioning MCN brings back memories; I used to buy Motorcycle News as did most bikers; when I visit Rufforth Auto Jumble I'm usually handed a free biking newspaper; it's Rufforth tomorrow and I'm looking forward to the trip out.

Thanks Verdun it's nice to hear from you again I hope you're keeping well. I'm always well behaved and polite to a fault. :)

Time is my biggest enemy in that I don't have enough of it; retired now for 19 years and still no let up; after working on our bungalow for the last 31 years I've now caught up so I'm now attacking the gardens and it's hard graft but I'm winning. I hope there are workshop owners or DIY'ers here?

I've rambled on enough so time to get off my backside and get busy.

                          Kind regards, Colin.

You asked in a post if Triumphs were still made in the UK. The answer is yes, and here is a short video showing how one of their models is made:

                              Hi,

                              Many thanks Sandy for your information and for adding the video. I'm out of touch with the biking world and not ridden one for 40 years but I sure enjoyed my younger years with bikes and the great chums I had. I'm encourageable because I've only been on this forum two minutes and already it's diverted to bikes but I'll be adding gardening stuff too. :) I've just watched the video and here's another for anyone into bikes;

                              Kind regards, Colin.

Blackie has been here for the last thirteen days with the exception of two half days without. My lawns desperately need mowing, so with a break in the weather tomorrow I hope to get them done.

Yes, I have totted up a lot of posts as I've been a member of Gardeners Corner for more than eight years. It's a great forum and I've made some wonderful friends here. :) With a reasonable general knowledge of gardening I've been able to add my two penn'orth to many threads. I haven't posted so much over the last couple of years though and more recently even less as I have eye sight issues.

Make yourself at home, we're a friendly and helpful bunch. :)
