    Does the Zanthoxylum produce peppercorns, @NigelJ ? I was given a Z. piperitum this year but I don't think that the flowers are pink, which is a shame......:)

      So you can get PawPaw fruits in Scotland! Food for thought.

      Jealous. I lost all mine over the last two winters.

      I used to grow a scarlet Dianthus - not frilly, uber fragrant and just plain nice.

        @longk
        Aquitane wasn't in Scotland last time I looked.
        @noisette47 It looks and smells very much like the Sichuan pepper I buy, however it's not a species that's used for cooking, as far as I know. This link has detailed information on the various species used in different countries Spice Pages: Sichuan Pepper (Zanthoxylum, Szechwan peppercorn, fagara, hua jiao, sansho 山椒, timur, andaliman, tirphal)

          Just a few, nothing new I'm afraid, space is at a premium.

                    It's a Garrya Elliptica "James Roof", Gail, which is a well behaved slow growing evergreen Shrub and produces a fantastic show of tassels every year. Even though it's been with me for nearly 30 years it never fails to bring a grin to my face every time I see it.
                    Not a bad idea with the Christmas lights but, in actual fact, if you were to see it in real life you'd see it actually "lights" up the garden all by itself.:snorky:

                      @ARMANDII I've never seen one before or at garden centres, really nice but lights on it also would really give it such attraction, especially with the tassels.:dbgrtmb:
