What are your top 5 worst weeds/ wildflowers that invade in your garden, or if you're a gardener, the ones that cause you the most problems in order of precedence.

    Mine are:

    1) Dandelions
    2) Dog/ wild violets
    3) Couch grass
    4) Herb Bennet
    5) Hairy Bittercress

Sorry if a thread like has been done before, couldn't find one with the search function.

You dislike wild violets! [IMG] Really? They are so quaint and pretty.

I am quite tolerant of a lot of weeds. (Definition of a weed is just a plant in the wrong place....allows a lot of scope don't you think?)

My number 1 worst weed to find in my garden would be Japanese Knotweed which is a recognised, pervasive and hard to eradicate plant.

I am not keen on thistles but wear gloves to remove them and a long trowel.

I think bindweed has elegant white flowers and are easy to pull up (admittedly not easy to eradicate permanently).

I tend to keep on top of the situation so the plants I dislike don't get a chance to get established.

LOL guess you're not a fan of bindweed (field or garden variety).

I forgot abut that on my list as it's mostly under control in my clients' gardens but it is amongst the worst of the worst to control. Horrible stuff.

              @rosebay

Violets are lovely when they're flowering but they spread everywhere and unless you get every morsel of them out of the ground, they keep coming back. Also, they seem bullet proof when it comes to many weed killers and often require a couple of treatments.

The stuff I use kills brambles, Ivy and most hard to kill stuff but it hardly touches violets first time aroud. I hate them with a passion, which seems so evil.

Everything else, Bindweed, wild Violets etc doesn't bother me as it's easy to get rid of or keep under control.

                    Hi Woo,

I can't give you any tips. Like yours mine is coming through the neighbours fence. I just keep pulling it out and it does get less.

@fileyboy Our garden backs on to a railway line and we only have a chain link fence :cry3:

So bindweed, rosebay willowherb, stinging nettles, ragwort and hogweed. Mainly because I look at them day in day out and get in the way of the brambles (would never call them a weed, love them). Really need to get a proper fence in though.
