Found a cheap source of Delistar F1 cucumbers via premier seeds direct. Quite a few very cheap seeds suppliers but IDK how reliable they are. They also provided me with BlackKnight and Corno Di Toro peppers for very cheap.
I Will also grow some other cucumbers, and definately the Telepathy F1 I grew last year. I think ill blend the two hybrids together and grow out their offspring in 2025 and just see what goes. Im gonna need as much space as I can muster this year, with my physalis, tomatoes, peppers and pumpkins. good lord.

Ill also be growing a few plants of chard, lettuce, kale, brocolli for spring and a few other bits and bobs. last year i had barely any success with leafies. lets see how they do this time. the chards i planted in october are still alive but they havent grown much.

I normally grow La Diva cucumbers outside but this year I'm trying marketmore and an F1 gherkin outside again. I used to grow gherkins inside the greenhouse but I need the space for other plants. Will try a melon Emir in the greenhouse this year

I grabbed a small bag of PFA seed potatoes in a garden centre a few days ago, any other veg seed that I want I'll probably just get that way also, a bit later.

I had no luck with Diva. I think I put it out too early or something. I prefer the big long slicing cucumbers anyway though.

Goodluck with marketmore, ive heard its a classic.

Hehe, danger danger! Ive not grown them before, but ive heard theyre very sweet and they did well in an RHS trial.
Dont sue me if its not as advertised :spinning:

On reading info on 'La Diva' cucumbers I think these will be ideal for me to try out in my south facing cold frame - which will be kept open through the day and if chilly closed at night.
"I'm thinking how my family plus my dogs would love to have one or two every day as a treat" :heehee:

If I pinch off the main growing point to keep the size down to 4 1/2 ft then my idea is to train the side shouts to go underneath the roof and down one side of the frame "does this seem plausible :ideaIPB:
( opening to cold frame is at the front)

Has anyone sewn Onion Snow Queen before?
I'm wondering if I can give them an early start by using propagator instead of planting seeds in trays outside - beginning of March would be good, before using propagator for my tomatoes.:spinning:
They will be ready in June along with my Little Gem Lettuce. "I have to have a trail (run-through) then I'll be set for when tomatoes ripen"

My one plant that lived did grow pretty tall, about 7 foot, so if you pinch it off it may grow far on the sides. But mine struggled with the initial cold. None of my cuces liked nights below say 12 c and la diva was the most initially fragile. If you make sure you harden them off they might do fine: I was too lazy to do so and suffered the results! The la diva did survive the longest of the lot into october.

I've never had much luck with spring onions they just don't like my garden or me. I will be interested to hear how you get on with this variety

Yes indeed, cucumbers are very temperamental, they can sulk for weeks if they get cold or just suddenly die overnight if over watered or under watered

So they do need careful hardening off and sowing later rather than too early, depends on the season but most Mays can have cold nights so delaying till June for planting is necessary.

After a brief cold snap its warmed up tremendously here. Looks like spring, all our bulbs are already shooting up and our daffs are actually opening their flowers... bizzare. Some of my very late sowed radishes died but most lived fine. Almost all the chard was untouched by -5 c. However, the "giant winter" spinach suffered quite badly with most of it dead, but then it was quite small still. My ornamental honesty all lived without leaf damage. The chard has grown much quicker than the spinach too considering the little light in winter. With this warm spell ive decided to sow some more chard and just see what happens.

I will try some lettuce too if this warm weather persists; any tips?
