You could certainly do that - a low level deck is quite easy to do yourself, but if you do, use the best quality materials you can. You would just leave a large gap around the trunk of the tree to allow it room to thrive. The only disadvantage of doing that is - decking is best in a sunny area,...

Lovely shrubs. They're popular round here, although the fruits don't last very well. The flowers on most of them are looking very nice just now. I've been considering one for a gap I have.

Unfortunately, wasps get a bad press, even thought they're just as valuable as bees, and quite fascinating. I love watching them drink from the pond shallows, and harvest wood from fences and timber edging.

I find it needs a damp spot to be happy, like all spreading plants the best growth is always around the edges of a clump as it moves outwards while the centre tends to die off.I have some growing in an old water tank and its always best if renewed every two years, otherwise it just gets tired.
