That's an off shoot, I cut the main trunk a couple of year ago as it was too huge.

There's a white one with a blue underside that went rampant for a few years in my London garden. It was sitting over the gas, water and electrics going into the house so maybe that helped. Then there was a really hard frost.....

My grandfather used to just break and bend the green stems over at right angles.

If you are to replace fence panels with new, then fit a gravel board ,timber (or concrete if budget permits). This will protect the new panels from decay and allow an increase in soil levl over time. The remaining retained panels can be done either now or as they need replacing

A lot do and can be identified by smell, however some have little or no scent. Also in cold weather any scent is less noticeable.

I think it's a deaths head caterpillar as well. They are occassionally seen here but I think they need the warmth of southern Europe to survive the winter. I may be mis-remembering but I think they eat plants in the solanum family or at least the only time I've seen one was when it was munching...

Well I bought a bulb planter which seems to work very well. I've planted about 100 or so Tulips and some Purple Sensation Alliums too. We will see what comes up.

I took delivery of two berberis yesterday, julianae. Those thorns, wow! Wish I'd found these first, they're brilliant. Reckon I can keep on top of those with some garden-shears. The holly that I've put in around the edges could have been a bit closer together. No matter. I shall plant more...

I use huge quantities of leaf mould. Having a variety of massive trees I am up to my eyeballs in leaves at this time of the year. Certainly a good proportion of the leaves are from 2 massive Copper Beech trees but also collect mounds of Sycamore and Ash. The ones on the grass I collect with the...
