They do have a chance to get away, to some degree - I am yet to see any animal that can outrun a bullet though.So you are actually OK with trophy hunting because it supports the remaining...

My cuttings of Chocolate Drop are overwintering quite well so far. The sweet peppers went in today. So I popped in a few micro dwarf seeds into the propagator to keep them company.
