Bark scraped off base of the base of an ash tree - prevention?
I have had badgers scratching the bark of my spruce trees, but the bark on these is fairly thick and fibrous, so it just looks like hair coming off the tree trunk. Could also been cats, but cats...

what to put on lawn now in December
Thanks - all excellent advice. Builders' tramp slightly difficult to control however! I'll take the rough with the smooth and wait till spring then for its beauty treatment!
