I personally don't believe they have a long term future in containers, but agree planting in that position isn't a good idea. I think some trellis on the wall with a suitable climbing plant either side of the door way would be a better option.

Another sign of the quick fix culture . I tend to go to GCs now only to buy compost. Much of their plant stock looks as if it has been forced to grow quickly under glass, leggy and easily damaged by wind and rain, even while it's still on display!

Thanks for the advice!@infradig Re:manure… dos it have to be the well rotted stuff you buy? I have friends who have horses so manure is no issue - but it’ll be fresh and someone once told me this is no good to go directly into beds.I don’t think have space for 2 trees which I hope to grow...
