Root trainer/barrier in bought plant - ok to plant?
Do they serve any real purpose? Plastic has its place for sure but I think its terrible how much waste gardening generates that seems unnecessary.

The variegated Pittosporum Elizabeth could work well - one of my neighbours has a very attractive hedge of this. I liked @Plantminded's suggestion of a flowering climber for the arch itself, too.
