It looks like it. Lift up the pots and carefully look around the base and under the rim for slugs and snails. You can use slug pellets. These are now based on ferrous sulphate and don't harm birds, hedgehogs etc.

You can get rolls of green metal edging which do a similar job to the log rolls which @lizzie27 mentioned. Not really the most attractive edging IMO and timber would seem more suited to the look of the garden but it comes down to what you can do or afford.

Thanks regarding the dog violets as well, I have loads of them in the back garden. They seem to really love it there in the shady places and also edges of the lawn

I think I'll just do my usual and mix jacks magic with ji no3 and sharp sand.It works ok but was hoping for a cheaper option.I bought a bag or two of some unknown stuff a couple of years ago and nothing grew in it, god knows what it was contaminated with.

It survives around here is all I can say, dont have it myself but have seen it in gardens.

I remove the spray gun after every use and keep it inside. The hose itself is fastened on the sheltered back wall of the house.

Queen of the Night seems to be the consensus here. I've got a few red ones that keep coming back year after year but honestly couldn't tell you what variety they are anymore, the labels vanished ages ago. The red ones always seem the most stubborn about returning which suits me fine.

Well done all worth it in the end no time to rest its spring well occasionally
