I do think the merlot tulips look gorgeous @PzaMayor3 - but that's because I love the richer colours. In your sunny environment they show up well, whereas in cloudy Wales, I have to rely on the yellow tulips to give me sunshine!

I'd be very careful of the vinca as @CarolineL says. Whilst the v major is the worst, the v minor will also spread rapidly. Are you keeping all of the lawn shown in your photo ? If so, there isn't a lot of space left for plants. Either way, violets, ferns, spring bulbs may be worth considering.

That looks fine That's about the height that I reduce my Verbena bonariensis to. Your Perovskia shouldn't be tempting for slugs anyway because of the strongly scented, tough, silvery foliage. They don't touch my Salvia Caradonna which is in the same family (mint).
