    Another option is just to cut them as low as you need to, to get access to fix the fence - easier than digging them out, and they might resprout into something you really like.

    I am often puzzled by modern life.

    My neighbour has wind chimes in the back garden - we don't hear them unless we are out there and usually as far up the garden as the greenhouse.. .something quite nice about hearing them tinkle...

    Anyone struck fig tree cuttings before?

    Most of my dahlias are grown in pots as snails and slugs are a problem. Interestingly I grow some species dahlia in the ground and I have some more species to go in the ground this summer, however...
