    What shrub is this?

    I agree with @CarolineL foliage is not right for B valdivana I have that in my garden. A couple of questions roughly how tall is the shrub and are there any spines on it?

    I planted out a fairly big Nerium oleander on the front garden, I hope it survives next winter but I have rooted cuttings if it doesn't. I didn't want to pot it on yet again so it should at least...

    I generally find that if it starts to slow it just gets slower and slower. Clearly even the problem isn't consistent:sad:

    That’s terrible, @ViewAhead! A bit like the spider turning up in the bedroom during the night! I keep a glass and a card in easy reach to trap any intruders so they can be ejected safely....

    Our neighbours have a house in Greece with 800+ year old olives. They told me they trim them with chainsaws, which seemed a little barbaric, especially considering the mess he makes of his hedge.

    I would say that if the roots still look viable then there is a chance it will burst into top growth. The ones I have lost (not specifically figs) that root well but show no top growth, normally...

    Another option is just to cut them as low as you need to, to get access to fix the fence - easier than digging them out, and they might resprout into something you really like.
